About Us

In June 2004 Horizon-Timmins Palliative Care Inc. celebrated its 20th anniversary. This free, non-profit bilingual volunteer-based visitation service to the terminally ill and their families began in 1984. Originally a French diocesan movement know as Albatross, it changed its name to Horizon-Timmins Palliative Care Inc. in 1993, and became incorporated as a non-denominational and officially bilingual organization in 1995, with a bilingual president, coordinator of volunteers, a part-time office administrator, and a board of directors. Horizon-Timmins Palliative Care’s office was originally located on Pine St. in Timmins, but is now located at the Children’s Treatment Centre across from the Timmins and District Hospital . Horizon-Timmins Palliative Care Inc. supports a number of sub-offices in locations such as Matheson, Cochrane, Smooth-Rock Falls, Iroquois Falls, Kapuskasing, Hearst, and Chapleau, as they too attempt to offer a similar service in their communities.
